Popularity: Peregrine has never ranked in the U.S. top 1000. There were 12 baby boys named Peregrine in 2010 and 16 in 2015. By comparison, there were 128 boys named Perry (and 40 Perrin if you were curious) in 2010. As for baby girls, the female variant Peregrina has only been used on 5 girls in 2005. However, Peregrine is sometimes given to girls. In 2015, Peregrine was given to 6 girls. Some parents opt for Peregrin as a simplified, more accessible spelling.

Fun fact: (1) The peregrine falcon is used in the ancient sport of falconry. It is said to be the fastest animal on the planet. (2) Saint Peregrine Laziosi is the patron saint of cancer. There is more than one Saint Peregrine, from the late 100s to the 6th century. I believe there are four total. (3) The first child born in the New World, America, was named Peregrine White. He was born on the Mayflower. (4) 1st century philosopher Peregrinus Proteus. (5) A name commonly used by English aristocrats starting in the 16th century and even to this day.

Galician Baby Names

I grew up on a street that was named an Italian variant of Roger. When I got married and we bought our first house, it turned out to be on Roger Street. Once noting that coincidence, I started searching for other variants of the name. However, female variants turned out to be pretty nonexistent. Witchy Baby Girl Names!

Most of them also fit in the "clunky but cool" category, or "vintage." Ancient Germanic Female Deities

Loki and Idun by John Bauer Here is a list of ancient Germanic goddess and personifications. There is some overlap with the goddesses of the Norse pantheon, and I've limited it to those names that I think would wear well today on modern babies. Of the following names, only the following were used in 2016. Sol was given to 91 girls, Ran to 5 girls, Saga to 9 girls, and Beyla to 6 girls. Beyla - as a possible agricultural personification, her name could mean "cow," "bean," or "bee," but she has been associated with bees and mead, so my guess is "bee." However, there's been a proposed connection to the reconstructed Proto-Norse name Baunila, which means "little bean." This is also a Spanish and Italian girls name.
